I was diagnosed with a large Meningioma brain tumor, the second most common tumor of the central nervous system in September 2008. The tumor got so large due to the fact that I ignored a lot of symptoms ranging from numerous headaches, and loss of balance and strength on the left side of my body. Why did I ignore these symptoms? I knew something was wrong but I just didn’t want to face what was in store for me. For 4 months, I ignored the headaches, loss of strength on my left side and many other things. I talked myself into believing it was caused by something else, a gym related injury or any other excuse I could think of that would help me from going to see a doctor. But in all honesty, I knew something was wrong and related to the cancer battle I fought when I was 13.

When you get cancer it changes your life and the people around you forever. It’s a disease that stays with you for the rest of your life and suffer from psychological problems and long term effects caused by the radiation and chemotherapy treatments. The brain tumor was a direct result of the massive amount of radiation I received to my head in order prevent any cancer cells from spreading in the future. I had a large mass in my chest, diagnosed as lymphoma in 1985 and I was required to undergo 24 months of intense chemotherapy and radiation.

After I was diagnosed with a brain tumor, I did a lot of research and found that survivors who received massive amounts of radiation to the neck/head area are highly likely to get a brain tumor as a direct result of the treatments they received 15-20 years prior. So, I urge those who received treatments 15-20 years ago to get a CT-Scan. Listen to your body.
